Port Elizabeth couple, Jen (a GIS Technician) and Edzard (a civil engineer) met in NMBM’s construction division, and it was love at first sight! Jen: “The first day I met Ed I decided that this was the man I was going to marry, we were friends for 3 months before he asked me to be his girlfriend and a week after that he told me he loved me”. Jen says Edzard is cool, calm and collected and loves his fun, loving and affectionate personality. Edzard loves that Jen is caring, creative, fun and very practical and has the biggest heart of anyone he has ever met!
Jen: “We went to the Tsitsikamma lodge for a weekend, he ordered a picnic basket for us but then it started raining, so we went for a walk in the rain along a little stream, he went down on one knee and told me he didn’t want to spend his life with anyone else and asked me to marry him, we ended up having the picnic in our cabin.”
“We chose The Plantation because it offers a stress-free environment, everything is taken care of and the venue and chapel are stunning! The menu was amazing, and we still get compliments on our food!”
Their wedding theme was fun and colourful. Everything from the bridesmaids’ bouquets and shoes, to the flowers and décor, to the welcome drinks were in three bright colours – pink, orange and yellow – showed off on a neutral base of white, silver and glass.
Jen and Edzard’s invitations and stationery were amazing; “we used cute illustrations of the two of us and things that are special to our lives.” Each table was named after a special moment, with a matching illustration. The invitations were a mix of all the little illustrations, and the church pamphlets were in the style of little fans, perfect for February’s hot weather.
Edzard: “The moment I saw my beautiful bride appear at the end of the chapel was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Second to that was my entrance on the motorcycle and side car! That was fun! Jen: “The highlight of my day was seeing Edzard’s face filled with tears and a great big smile and having all our family and friends there with us!”
“After all the planning and hard work, when you’re standing there among friends and family with that overwhelming feeling of joy and excitement, it’s all worth it in the end, just hang in there! And don’t lose sight of what this day is really about, it is the union of two people who love each other, it’s your fairy-tale, so it doesn’t matter what who thinks or says, the only thing that matters is the two of you, your happiness and what you want – it’s your day!
